In Early 2019, I reached 5,000 followers on Medium. Today, I’m at 21.5K. For an introverted lone wolf of a single mother who has often capped her Facebook friends list at 100 or 200, any sort of number in the thousands still seems crazy to me.
But here’s what I’ve learned.
1. I still don’t "have it made" on Medium.
At the beginning of 2019, when I hit 5K followers, I felt the impact. People clapped more. I had more fans. 400K views a month wasn’t all that unusual.
But things sort of leveled off as the year moved on. Some numbers even went down. Currently, my views are a fraction of what they used to be despite quadrupling my followers in 2019.
Which means? Even at nearly 22K followers on Medium, I still don’t “have it made.” I have good months and bad months, though our definition of good or bad may differ.
Ultimately, my numbers ebb and flow. And I’m not seeing more engagement to coincide with all those followers.
