When I first started writing on Medium — it was the good old days. No one was worried about making money here. Curation wasn’t a thing, so writers could experiment and just start writing without worrying about silly things like editors.
But things change. Now writers can make money on Medium. And now Medium charges readers money, too. The site is tightening things up, I suppose. As a result, there’s less space for diving in and figuring things out on the fly.
Because Medium’s curators read your first several posts — but if you’re not curated pretty soon after you start writing here, they stop looking. In the Medium writer’s community that’s called being in Curation Jail.
And that’s not good news if your goal is to earn an income here.
Curation means that Medium will share your post with the readers who follow the topic they sort your post into — when you post it and over time. Curation gives your post legs. Instead of a little burst when you self-promote and then obscurity, your curated post might be read for weeks or months or even year.
